How does it work?

Here are some categories used by a small municipality.

First, set up some alert categories...

You can create categories to group different kinds of alerts together. This gives your community members the ability to choose what sort of things they want to hear about.

Make as many or as few alerts as you feel you need.

You'll be able to look back later to see who is subscribed to which category, so you can gauge popularity and effectiveness.

 
Your community members pick the alert categories

Then, your users pick what they want to see...

Once your users sign up, they can choose what types of alerts they want to receive, and how they want to receive them.

In addition to the system sending out alerts, they can also follow alerts with Twitter or RSS.
